Encroachments

ANY construction or maintenance activity within the jurisdictional area of the levee system, as detailed below, is subject to review by the levee maintenance district. Minor projects may be authorized under a Letter of Permission as deemed appropriate by the Board and the District Engineer. More involved projects may require the issuance of an Encroachment Permit. Additionally, certain activities may require permits or permissions from other regulatory bodies at both the State and Federal level such as:

  • US Army Corps of Engineers
  • US Fish and Wildlife Service
  • National Marine Fisheries Service
  • California Fish and Wildlife Agency
  • California Central Valley Flood Protection Board
  • California Regional Water Quality Control Board
  • California State Lands Commission

It is the Applicant's responsibility to ascertain which permissions are required and to comply with all regulatory authorities.
